What Does Glenaire Offer?

Glenaire is a continuing care community, sometimes called a life plan community. Residents move in while they can still live independently, and assisted living and nursing care are on the same campus if they need them later.

Independent living

Studios of about 485 square feet up to two bedroom cottages of 2,290 square feet, with full kitchens. Cottages and the larger 120 Building homes include a washer and dryer, and cottages have a garage or carport.

Assisted living and nursing

A health center with 68 assisted living apartments and 71 skilled nursing beds certified by Medicare and Medicaid, plus on site physical, occupational, and speech therapy and a nurse practitioner clinic.

The Glade

An adult day center on campus for people 62 and older in the early stages of dementia.

What Daily Life Looks Like

The monthly fee includes a meal allowance through a flexible meal plan, and the allowance varies by the type of home. Residents can use it across six dining venues, from a full service restaurant to a café open all day.

  • A heated indoor pool and hot tub, and a 25,000 square foot wellness center
  • Pickleball, an indoor sports court, indoor track, and putting green
  • Art studios, woodworking shops, an auditorium, library, and music room
  • Weekly housekeeping and linen service and maintenance included, plus utilities in apartments
  • Scheduled transportation and rides to medical appointments by appointment
  • A no tipping policy, and a dog washing station

How Does Glenaire's Pricing Work?

Glenaire charges a one time entrance fee plus a monthly fee. You choose a standard plan, whose refund shrinks over the first four years, or a 50 or 90 percent refundable plan at a higher entrance fee. Glenaire doesn't publish its rates. Every North Carolina continuing care community files a disclosure statement with the state, and you can read Glenaire's latest disclosure statement. Ask me for current pricing and I will walk you through the plans.

How Is Glenaire's Health Center Rated?

Glenaire's skilled nursing center holds Medicare's highest rating, 5 stars, with above average health inspections and top ratings for staffing and quality. Its last health inspection, in December 2025, found 4 problems, fewer than the state average, and it has had no federal fines in three years. Nurses spend more than seven hours per resident per day, almost twice the state average.

Several quality measures for long term residents run worse than the state average, most notably falls causing major injury and new or worsening incontinence, along with hospital stays and antipsychotic use. Ask how the center is working on them. You can see every measure on the Medicare Care Compare page for Glenaire's health center. Glenaire's latest financial filing shows high occupancy and cash reserves well above what its lenders require.

What I'd Ask on a Tour

These are the questions I make sure get answered when I tour Glenaire with a family.

  • Whether your contract covers future assisted living and nursing at today's monthly fee, or charges more when you need care
  • How the refund plans compare for your situation
  • How long the waitlist is for the home you want
  • How the nursing center is working on falls with injury
  • When the planned nursing center renovation will affect residents
